The Singaporean Synonyms Dictionary
Hey, folks!!! I was just thinking about something else today when my mind just started getting into coming up with some "Singaporean-ized" synonyms (now how about that? something truly uniquely Singapore#). Then i thought of perhaps coming up with a "Singaporean Synonyms Dictionary," (the "SSD") much like in the style of TalkingCock's "Coxford Singlish Dictionary" - but then again, i realized that it might take a lot of entries before i could call it a "Dictionary" (and a "Dictionary" of "Synonyms" is just an "oxymoron," so...), so... what i will do is just present a few "sample entries" here lah (that's all i presently have, anyway), and then see what happens to the process...
"Worker" = Workhorse (other synonyms include "valuable resource", "only resource", - "goose that lays the golden egg that still must get slaughtered and mistreated", ...)
"Workers' Union" [reworded definition] = "national trade union"... No - actually, just Congress.
"Workers' Union" [*old definition]= Workers' what??? Congress is in charge here, man. I mean, National Trade Union... Congress...
(*this i learned from Mr. Martin Lee of Hong Kong)
'PAP' [People's Action Party] = 'PAPA' - "People's Action Party Always"
'ISD' [Internal Security Department] = "Imprison Singaporeans Department" (hey! it is well, after all, "Internal Security," right???)
# yes i know - that is bad english ("uniquely Singapore"), but... Somehow i get the idea (always???) that life in Singapore is always about well, "the Singapore," but never about "the Singaporeans". How true is that??? I dont know... Witness - "Singapore Idol" (and not "Singaporean Idol"). vs, say "American Idol." Or even our close neighbour "Malaysian Idol." Thaaank you. I would just like to say for the record that it feeels so good to be a Singaporean. The next time somebody asks me about my nationality..., i'll just say that i am "a Singapore" - "uniquely Singapore."
