"For Your Information" - Fight the Power: Art for Social Change Presents, "POLITICAL COMEDY"
Happened to surf into this while searching for stuff on google:
This is in the University of Maryland, MD USA, so too bad for us folks who live too far away, and won't be able to take the time out to fly down there personally to attend this!!! I just wish there was like a live cam or something - make the event and goings on viewable to the rest of the public as well...
Oh well!!!
The synopsis is as follows:
More details about the event may be found here, but essentially, it's going to take place (YES!!! Literally "tomorrow"!!!!) on the 21st of February 2008, in UMD itself....
Sounds like a veery interesting event NOT to miss out on!!! Not just for comedians!! but for "society/community types" as well.... I just wish we had commentary/shows like that as well here - news/comedy like that is always among the funniest....

The synopsis is as follows:
In recent years, political comedy has exploded into the public consciousness. From Jon Stewart and the Daily Show to the Colbert Report to Real Time with Bill Maher, more young people than ever are receiving their news, and perhaps their political outlook, from late night comedy. In this session we'll look at clips from those shows and discuss the impetus for their success and what it means for the future of politics, comedy, and youth involvement.
Open to the public - all are welcome to attend!!

what I don't get about some comedians
Jerry Seinfeld - is he really as good as he is? Pardon me, but I don't particularly go for the dead-pan delivery that he uses for his routine. Sure, I get it - it's part of his personal style. It's who he is. But still... couldn't the guy just spruce things up a bit?
Some say that Jerry is good, but you know, I would like to think of it this way - as with a lot of the things in life involving "taste" - like music, food, comedy, etc. etc... once you have tasted of the good stuff (like George Carlin, for example - now there's a true master of the delivery!!!!), you never (ever!!!) see the old stuff in the same light again.
Same case with me and Jerry, you could say. Except that I never got turned on to Jerry in the first place. I started out with George. Jerry is like your "run-of-the-mill", "I just do it for a living and then I'll just get the heck out of here" kind of comedian (or at least that's the vibe that I get whenever I listen to him, or watch him perform) - he delivers the jokes... but I dunno, there doesn't seem to be any life in the thing. No passion at all in his work, no urge for improvement... George, on the other hand... Now if you ever saw him perform, you'll know that the guy is really passionate about his work!!!!
What can I say, man? "Popular" just ain't cut it??? Now you know that's true. Ruben Studdard may have won American Idol some seasons back - but guess who was the better singer of the two for that season?

Japan vs Singapore: the idea of "checks and balances"
I have often made jibes about cultural and language differences ("PuhTay'Doe" vs "PuhTahToe" stuff), but here's something a little bit closer to home...

(The bigger version. Pls be patient while the picture loads. Wont take that long!)

The yahoo url mentioned in the pic - ("Japan farm minister attempts suicide: police") http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070528/wl_nm/japan_minister_dc_2

I think "PuhTay'Doe", and u read "PuhTahToe"!!!
this is a post primarily about ... well, badly vetted-through domain names as u shall see. Read, and you shall smirk! Just hope that we dont make the same mistakes as well... ;)
Taken from "Sam's poor excuse for a blog" (it's an inactive blog, btw - last post September 4, 2006, so dont expect too much over there)
But before we go to the good part, let me wax lyrical (just a teensy weensy bit!!!) about communication theory... ('tis not boring, i promise!!!) One sentence that i read from off a book some time ago comes to mind in this case of "bad idea exchange across the internet": "The meaning of the communication is the feedback that u receive." Think about that for a moment... To apply it to a topic closer to ur heart, perhaps, this is why women and men find it so hard to communicate. Women dont understand why men dont "get" them ... while men dont understand why women cant seem to just accept the words as they are!!!
Now on to the topic at hand: badly vetted-through domain names. Here is the list, as compiled by Sam...
ps. does anybody have a clue as to just how #8 can be misread? i cant figure it out. The only proper reading of it would be as it was intended (hyphenized for clarity) - www.ip-anywhere.com ... i-pany-where??? i-pan-y-where??? ... WHAT???
(UPDATE May 16 - oh heck, i just figured it out - it can be read as "i-pee-anywhere"...)

Different types of customers
Here's a doctor's look at what a difference in customers can make:
Third Opinion
Three Doctors are dicussing which types of patients they prefer. Doctor Watson says, "I prefer librarians. All their organs are alphabetized."
Doctor Fitzpatrick says, "I prefer mathematicians. All their organs are numbered."
Doctor Ahn says, "I prefer lawyers. They are gutless, heartless, brainless, spineless, and their heads and rear ends are interchangeable."
But of course, if this was what our doctors truly thought of us, we would not go back to them anymore now, would we? Unless, of course, we are part of the stupid 66.6*%. (*as pointed out by phew!)

The latest funny one from Comedy Central ;)
This one's called "Uncle Ted's Morals", but really, i would prefer to call it "The Moral of the Story" (or "Uncle Ted"):
Billy's homework assignment is to think of a true story with a moral so he goes home and thinks about it all night and finally has one.
The following day, Suzy raises her hand first and says, "My dad owns a farm and every Sunday we load the chicken eggs on the truck and drive into town to sell them at the market. Well, one Sunday we hit a big bump and all the eggs flew out of the basket and onto the road."
The teacher asks for the moral to the story. Suzy replies, "Don't put all your eggs in one basket."
Next is Lucy. "Well, my dad owns a farm, too, and every weekend we take the chicken eggs and put them in the incubator. Last weekend only 8 of the 12 eggs hatched. The moral is, don't count your chicks before they are hatched.''
Billy is last to speak. He says, ''My uncle Ted fought in the Vietnam War. His plane was shot down over enemy territory. He jumped out before it crashed, with only a parachute, a bottle of bourbon, a machine gun, and a machete. As he floated down he drank the bottle of bourbon. Unfortunately, he landed right in the middle of 100 North Vietnamese soldiers. He shot 70 with his machine gun, but ran out of bullets so he pulled out his machete and killed 20 more. The blade broke on his machete, so he killed the last 10 with his bare hands.''
The teacher looks in shock at Billy and asks if there is possibly any moral to his story.
Billy replies, "Don't f**k with my Uncle Ted when he's been drinking."

Playing The Deception Game - He who deceives best WINS????
Now I know it's been a while since i last posted, but... u know how it is lah. Singapore is just soo boring, nothing to write about lah!!! (actually, there probably was a lot of stuff lah, just that i got lazy. And pls, i have better things to do. Like trying to SAVE UP A LOT OF $$$ so that i won't be sucked dry by the increase in the "CAKE"GST when it hits everybody (equally). But yes, survival beats writing about funny stuff anytime).
You still have to survive in Singapore... right? Survive... or ship out ("quit"). But this is just so funny (I just received this joke today) that i have to talk about it. Just got this from Comedy Central recently....
Comedy Central's Joke of the Day -
Leopard vs. Poodle
A wealthy old lady decides to go on a photo safari in Africa, taking her poodle along for company.
One day the poodle starts chasing butterflies and before long, discovers that he's lost. Wandering about, he notices a hungry-looking leopard heading rapidly in his direction.
The poodle thinks, "Oh, oh!" Noticing some bones on the ground close by, he immediately settles down to chew on the bones with his back to the approaching cat. Just as the leopard is about to leap, the poodle exclaims loudly, "Boy, that was one delicious leopard! I wonder if there are any more around here?"
Hearing this, the leopard halts his attack in mid-strike, a look of terror comes over him and he slinks away into the trees. "Whew!", says the leopard, "That was close! That poodle nearly had me!"
Meanwhile, a monkey who had been watching the whole scene from a nearby tree, figures he can put this knowledge to good use and trade it for protection from the leopard. So off he goes, but the poodle sees him heading after the leopard with great speed, and figures that something must be up. The monkey soon catches up with the leopard, spills the beans and strikes a deal for himself with the leopard.
The leopard is furious at being made a fool of and says, "Here, monkey, hop on my back so you can watch me chew that poodle to bits!"
Now, the poodle sees the leopard coming with the monkey on his back and thinks, "What am I going to do now?", but instead of running, the dog sits down with his back to his attackers, pretending he hasn't seen them yet, and waits until they get just close enough to hear.
"Where's that damn monkey?" the poodle says, "I sent him off an hour ago to bring me another leopard!"
And now, in other news (just because this is a Singaporean blog - and so i shall have to at least devote some space to Singaporean news, me being a patriotic Singaporean through-and-through anyway, right?), this came out just yesterday in "TODAY"... I'm posting it here because the headline caught my eye, and it is quite funny as well (and i know everybody hates spam, right? Oh, and btw, i am in the business of retailing some absolutely fantastic Male Enhancement Devices. Pls contact me if you need any... ahem no, want any.... :) :) :) :) :))

Don't ignore snail mail scourge in war on spam
Letter from YAN DAWEI
I REFER to the article, "Law joins anti-spam battle" (Feb 13).
Interestingly, the article, as well as the law, has overlooked the senders of unsolicited mail via traditional postal services.
Even before the applause for SingPost to convert all its public letterboxes to lockable ones had died down, citizens like me who had their letterboxes rebuilt had already begun to receive junk or unsolicited mails in our letterboxes. This is ironical: One of the reasons cited for spending millions to convert old letterboxes to lockable ones was to prevent unsolicited advertisement flyers and brochures from getting into the letterboxes.
This move basically handed SingPost a virtual monopoly in the business of distributing unsolicited mail. Now, advertisers simply have to pay SingPost to have their junk mail delivered to us. Not only do we have big organisations - even Town Councils - dumping their flyers into our letter boxes, smaller companies have turned to using distributors who dump flyers right into our apartment.
If residents were told to reject junk mail by locking the movable flap of their letterboxes, one wonders why SingPost is still dumping junk mail into them.
It would be unfair if the anti-spam law were lopsided in its reach and enforcement. Traditional junk mail should be viewed on par with the spam problem.
